COLLECTION
With Poetry of Poses, I present an entirely new collection of works. The paintings tell stories in which people, whether dancing or musing, take their place within the setting and engage in a personal dialogue with it.

Harbour House (from the ‘Antwerp’ series) Acryl size: 28,35 x 40,16’’ grootte: 72 x 100cm The reflection of the famous harbour house on the water creates a new form that bends like a dancing couple. In this scene, the dancers are set stately like a building, the boundary between building and man diminishes and the space in between becomes equally important.

MAS (from the ‘Antwerp’ series) Acrylic size: 27,56 x 35,43’’ grootte: 70x90cm The MAS (international museum in Antwerp) inspires me and I extended the playful surfaces of the building to the surroundings outside. The MAS houses traces of its not always beautiful colonial past, with stately statues in beautiful shapes. In contrast, the playfulness entices the visitor to enter.

Left bank (from the ‘Antwerp’ series) Acrylic size: 28,35 x 39,37’’ grootte: 72/100cm This work was the first of the Antwerp series. In the buoyed meadow, the boundary between humans and their surroundings blurs. People become sculptures standing rusty in the windy meadow.

Acrylic size: 19,69 x 40,16’’ grootte: 50 x 100 Sometimes you hear things you don't really want to hear, or shouldn't hear, like whispering waves moving through a keyhole into your ear.

Acrylic size: 19,69 x 40,16’’ grootte: 50 x 100 cm Attractive, dark thoughts invade and mix with the positive thoughts. Can you chase them away? Or do they naturally slip back into the darkness?

Acrylic size: 19,69 x 40,16’’ grootte: 50 x 100 cm You have the will to bravely try something new and yet, people do not change patterns easily, as if they are stuck forever. Inner doubters (Doubt hangers) argue and make you repeat the same pattern infinitely and meanwhile the life clock ticks on.

Romance on the Left Bank

Acrylic size: 19,68 x 24’’ grootte: 50 x 61 cm A beautiful anchor from the maritime open-air museum leans forward serenely. In contrast, two figures on a fictitious wall—one also bent like the anchor but busily engaged with a smartphone. Do you like it?

Acrylic size: 19,68 x 23,62’’ grootte: 50 x 60 cm What do people talk about, by the setting sun, sitting on a lawn? About their deepest feelings? Or just gossiping a bit about others and seeing who all is still sitting there?

Acrylic size: 19,68 x 24’’ grootte: 50 x 61 cm The buoy from the maritime open-air museum on the Left Bank gazes at the viewer, while the couple gazes deeply into each other’s eyes. In this blue, romantic setting, what else is there to say but the simple observation, ‘you have blue eyes’?

Acrylic size with frame: 23,62 x 43,30’’ grootte met kader: 60 x 110 cm The exhilarating atmosphere of the Moulin Rouge sets the stage for this door panel. Scenes from both onstage and backstage are intertwined. Like countless other painters, I am swept away by the world of cabaret and seduction.

Acrylic size with frame: 23,62 x 31,49’’ grootte met kader: 60 x 80 cm Dancers and spectators move fluidly to the soft, romantic sound of violin music. I painted these panels with the Antwerp Opera in mind.

Acrylic - size with frame: 23,62 x 43,30’’ grootte met kader: 60 x 110 cm Imagine walking through the streets at night and seeing these scenes through the windows. The bold double bass and the love between people are expressed by the dancers to the music of Rachmaninoff, Symphony No. 2. To me, these panels belong in a nocturnal (jazz) club.

Watercolour pencil, pen size with frame: 16,53 x 20,07’’ grootte met kader: 42 x 51 cm The rose 'Rosa Just Joey' hovers above the buildings that resemble ancient ruins from long-forgotten times. The two horizontal bands reference the cultures of Mesoamerica and the Andean civilizations.
